Meat Free Week - Challange Yourself

Meat Free Week is here and that is a big yay from me who already lives a fairly meat free existence and has from an early age. There are countless studies that show eating a diet with a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes and protein is good for you but the effects of a vegetarian or vegan diet reach much further than your internal structure. Eating less meat not only improves your digestive health, skin, hair, nails, life expectancy, health and well being it helps to protect the susatinabilty of the planet we live on. Did you know it takes 2393 litres of water to make a SINGLE HAMBURGER, we could also end world hunger by using the grain we grow for livestock to feed people in need, And raising livestock for meat, eggs and milk generates 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, the second highest source of emissions and greater than all transportation combined. It also uses about 70% of agricultural land, and is one of the leading causes of deforestation, biodiversity loss, and water pollution.

You can clearly see there are a few benefits to going 'green' not only for you but for the planet too.

I absolutely love cooking, experimenting with food and teaching myself how to replace certain elements of a dish to create a more animal friendly version is something I truly enjoy. It is always a welcomed challenge when cooking for those who predominantly eat meat, to create something so delicious they forget about the meat component or lack-there-of and enjoy something wholesome that doesn't cost the earth. So I have complied a list of some of my favourite go-to websites and recipes available that will turn any meat eater into a 'greenie' and all accessible at the touch of a finger.
