Dealing with IBS
Do you suffer from bloating, wind or abdominal discomfort? Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) effects 1 in 5 Australians with higher rates among women. It is believed that many people suffering from IBS do not seek help for this condition. IBS symptoms can be embarrassing and inconvenient as you may find yourself always looking for the nearest toilet.

Foods are a common trigger for IBS. Luckily, there is a way to manage this. FODMAPS (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols) are poorly digested foods, particularly if you have IBS. In simple terms, these are types of sugars that the body is unable to break down completely. People with IBS may react with rapid bloating, discomfortable and altered bowel habits. Common foods causing problems include dairy, wheat, onion or garlic, some fruits and vegetables and legumes. Finding out which foods cause you trouble is the key for managing this condition.
If you feel that you are struggling with IBS and would like go back to doing the things you love without the need to know exactly where the toilet is, give me a call today. Through a FODMAP challenge I can help you identify foods causing problems and help manage your IBS.
